    • Copy EVERY question you ever got incorrect - even if you then got it correct later - and paste in the google doc

      • Open GoogeDocs
        • New -> Presentation 
      • Choose color of your poster 
        • Slide -> Background
      • Using the TextBox button, add text boxes 
        • Title textbox
          • Should clearly be the title
            • Bigger, different font 
        • Informational textboxes
          • EACH textbox needs a title 
          • UNDER each title, make a bulleted list of information related to the title
      • Drag pictures into the slide
        • MATTE them by placing a solid box behind them
          • Consistent coloring! 
        • EACH picture needs a caption
          • Use a text box 
      • When done, check:
        • Is it too busy?
        • Are the colors consistent and related to your subject?
        • Are there 3+ pictures?
        • Are there 4+ textboxes?

 

IF you are not done, but the class is ending,

  • SAVE the presentation

 

IF you are completely done with the project, 

  • VIEW the slide in full screen mode
  • Using ctrl-shift-4, take a picture of the slide
  • On your desktop, change the name of the slide to your LAST name
  • OPEN an email, address it to me at mmackenzie@bonnyeagle.org, and ATTACH the picture file
  • Practice presenting the poster
    • Don't start with "I did..."
      • Instead start with a fact about your place 
    • Don't use "okay," or "like," etc. 

 

All done with your poster? 

  • Review for open note station quiz - rock identification & weathering/erosion

    • Why is finding the epicenter important?

    • We will tackle one as a class. Do 2 more for full credit. Do 3 more for extra credit. (Must have Good Job! or Excellent Work! to receive credit.)

  • Today's Online Assignment: Natural History Museums (I shared with you an example.)
    • Which museum - in or outside of the US- would be the BEST one to visit for geologic history?
      • What makes a museum great you ask? Dinosaur and early human fossils OF COURSE, but also other types of fossils and a GREAT education department to educate visitors.
    • When you find a museum that fits this profile, create a page that has the following:
      • Title= the name of your museum
      • Map of where it is in the country/world
        • Be sure not to zoom in too much so we can see where it is!
        • Include caption with city & state or city & country
      • Picture of what it looks like
        • With caption
      • How much general admission is
      • Other features you can pay for in addition to general admission and what they get you.
      • How big is their variety of fossils they have? (Name the animals/plants/insects they have.)
        •   Include:
          • Which era/periods those fossils are from
          • What type of fossil is it? (unaltered, petrified, amber, cast, mold, track, coprolite, etc.)
    • Is there a virtual tour? If yes, what is the link?
    • What would be the thing you would want to see at the museum most? Why?
    • Put your name in the bottom right hand corner
    • Be sure all the information fits into ONE page
      • If you need more room, go to File -> Page Setup and change all margins to .5.
      • Look at your page and make sure it's neat and the space is used wisely. 
        • Not too much white space but not too crowded
        • Make pictures bigger but not pixelated
        • Change font bigger or smaller

  • Online Assignment - Using Google Earth 
    • Open Google Earth and Open Office (or Pages)
      • Google Earth -> Preferences -> Exaggeration = 3
        • Uncheck ALL layers except Roads and Borders & Labels 
    • 1. Put your name in the top right corner of the document you opened
    • 2. Capture and paste a bird's eye view of your house using Google Earth.
      • ctrl+command+shift+4       adds the image to the computer's memory. Ctrl-V to paste.
      • command+shift+4      places the image on the desktop. Drag into document.
    • 3. Add a layer Gallery -> Volcanoes  Capture an image of the newest volcano with its name off the southeast coast of Hawaii (still underwater.)
    • 4. Add a layer Gallery -> 360Cities. Go to northeast Wyoming. There you will see 2 360 red discs. Double click on the more northern one to enter the picture. 
    • 5. Capture an image within that picture of Devils Tower then Exit Photo.
    • Add a layer More -> Wikipedia. Find the W icon on top of Devil's Tower.
    • 6. Capture an image in the Wikipedia entry to show the elevation of Devils Tower.
    • Add a layer -> More -> Parks/Rec -> US National Parks
    • 7. What is the only National Park in New England? Capture and paste a picture of the symbol over where it is.
    • 8. Capture a side profile of the JFK Space Center in Florida using the layer 3D Buildings. Be sure to include the side with the NASA logo.
    • ***Be sure #s 1-8 are on ONE page only. Print to hs-tchrsrmnew.***
